If you want to improve your overall fitness level of lose weight, there's a good chance that you have purchased a gym or fitness club membership. This is a great first step. However, it likely made you feel good enough about the steps that you are taking to improve your health that you didn't push through and actually go to the gym. You might be putting it off because you are nervous. You might be worried that people are going to make fun of you for how much you weigh or your lack of ability. You might not know what to do. Here are some steps for going to the gym for the first time.

1. Don't Worry About People Making Fun of You

It's hard to ignore your concerns, but know that your worry about people making fun of you is not a valid one. The reason for this is that people are far too concerned with what they are doing themselves to spend a ton of time thinking about you. This might seem trite, but the reality is that people create their own world in the gym. If they are talking, they're talking to their friends. Most people are going to be listening to music or podcasts and looking in the mirror to see if they are maintaining form while lifting. When they're not lifting, they're going to be on their phones.

The second reason why you shouldn't worry is because gyms hate when other members make fun of other members and are very strict about no bullying. Bullying makes gyms lose business and that's the last thing they want.

2. Wear Comfortable Clothing

Wear clothing that you are comfortable moving around in. This will allow you to not be hindered when you want to try some new equipment and will make it easier for you to fit in.

3. Bring a List of Things to Try Before Leaving

You likely saw what equipment the gym had before you went. If you didn't, you can go online and get a list of equipment. Before your first day, make a list of four to five weight exercises that you want to try, whether it's dumbbell exercises or machines. Also try a little bit of cardio to see if you like it, on a treadmill, rowing machine, or elliptical. This will allow you to make sure that you are finishing everything and getting a taste of the gym before you allow yourself to leave.

Once you leave the gym, put a note in you schedule for when you are going to come back. Talk to your gym, like Club 7 Fitness, for more information.
